You all know how we love Maison book girl at the podcast. I personally have become such a fan that I now own their whole catalog. Anyway, I saw some news today that I just had to follow up on. Lets take a look at it.
First off, here is the article I saw earlier. It was put up on the natalie.mu news site: イギリスでJ-POPレーベル・Read The Air Records設立、第1弾はMaison book girl…. Vinyl you say? Interest piqued… you all should know by now, I love my vinyl. I contacted the label putting out the release and they are really nice folks. It is a UK based label and they want to bring all kinds of J-pop music to the west, like what we do here. Now, I could try and just re-phrase the press release, but you all know how I can be lazy sometimes, so I will just give you the important parts verbatim.
First a bit about this new label.
Read The Air Records is a collaboration between UK independent label Alcopop! Records and Japanese independent label Vinyl Junkie. With a growing appetite for Japanese music from the UK audience, the aim for the new imprint is to help share some of the best artists emerging from the Japanese scene.
Commenting on the new venture, Alcopop! label boss Jack Pop said: “I’ve long been excited about the music coming out of Japan and in love with the culture emanating from the region, so when Vinyl Junkie, our favourite label over there, told us they wanted to work together, it seemed like a wonderful opportunity. This label will be solely concerned with highlighting some of the wonderful music coming from Tokyo, Yokohoma, Osaka and beyond. It’s that simple really!”
I am really excited about this by the way. I am always looking for new ways to get me some idol music, and on vinyl to boot. Now, when I contacted them they told me that there will be more J-pop music to come. Will it be more of the alternative or underground styles that we talk about here? Possibly something a bit more mainstream. Only time will tell. They will be sending more press releases when the time comes.
The press release then goes on to give a brief history of the group. I didn’t think that this was something that I needed to cover here. I would hope that my readership would already know the basic history of a group that has been covered often here and on the podcast.
Enough with the delays though, lets see what this release is all about. Again I quote from the press release.
Read The Air Records are pleased to announced the signing of Japanese idol pop group Maison Book Girl for their maiden release on the newly formed record label.
Lead single ‘KARMA – UK Version’ will be featured on the label’s first ever pressing, available now via all good digital retailers and released on limited edition blue 7″ vinyl in May with a soon-to-be-revealed double A-side.
Here is the announcement video as well.
So there you have it. May is the time of release…. blue vinyl. The anticipation mounts……
One does have to wonder if these are new recordings. The YouTube video does seem to indicated that the lyrics may be in English. Also, which song will the other A-side be? We will just have to wait and find out.
Oh…… here is the jacket art as well.
